Run for Hope Kenya 2026

19 September 2026 · Lavington Mall, Nairobi

Our first race. We ran it, we can show you what happened, and here is exactly what we can and cannot evidence yet.

By the numbers

What we can evidence

Every figure below carries the method it was counted by and where the record lives. A figure we have not reconciled says so, and tells you what we are waiting on.

What happened

Run for Hope Kenya was our first race, and the thing we set out to test was simple: whether a course in Nairobi could turn strangers into a conversation about suicide prevention, and whether that conversation could carry money to the people already doing the work.

We ran a Community Walk alongside 5K, 10K and 21K distances at Lavington Mall, with a wellness village and short talks before the start. Thousands of individual decisions — a bib, a training plan, a Saturday morning — added up to one morning of collective attention on a subject that is usually discussed in whispers.

What we are not going to do on this page is round the participation up to a round number and call it a result. The figures above are still being reconciled against our own records, and they say so.

Race results

Race results

Results are held with our timing provider and are being exported and checked. We publish them once every distance has been reconciled against the chip records — a results page with errors on it is worse than no results page.

Finish the export, spot-check against the manual count, then set available: true

Photos & video

The day itself

Photographs

Race-day photography is being selected and consented. We publish images we have permission to use.

Video

A race recap video is in production. It will be published here when it is finished rather than as a placeholder embed.

Impact

Where the funds went

We know what came in. We are still reconciling what was disbursed, to whom, and against what each recipient delivered. Until that reconciliation is finished we are not going to describe the impact in words a sponsor could not audit.

Reconcile the bank statement against recipient records, then publish per-recipient amounts and outcomes

Partners

Who made it possible

We are asking each organisation named publicly to confirm that first. A partner list is a permission request, not a thank-you note we can write ourselves.

What we learned

What we learned

Registration and race-day logistics are a separate skill from organising a cause, and we underestimated the first while believing we had the second. Kit sorting, start-wave design and the number of people who need water at a specific kilometre are operational problems with exact answers, and they deserved the same attention as the messaging.

The wellness village did more work than we expected. Conversations that were not on the running brief became the part people mention afterwards.

We would change how we present results. Asking people to run for a cause and then not showing them what the cause got is a broken loop, and it is the single thing we most need to fix before the next event.

The report

The 2026 Impact Report is in preparation. It will carry participation and fundraising totals, the split of resources across programme areas, what each youth-led partner delivered, and what we got wrong.
